About This Spin Wheel
I closed all the other tabs on my laptop. The news, the work email, the endless scroll. The screen felt quieter already. My partner was on the couch, the kids were finally settled. We just looked at each other, tired but smiling. It was one of those nights where we wanted to connect, but our brains were too fried to decide how.
The wheel was already there
I’d made it a while back, just a silly little digital spinner. It felt like a relic from a less tired time. But I pulled it up anyway. My daughter peeked over my shoulder. "What's that?" she asked. "Our helper," I said. It was nice not having to be the one with all the ideas for once.Letting the wheel choose
We all gathered around. My son insisted on being the one to click. There was a tiny, shared suspense in the room. The whirring sound of the virtual spinner made us all laugh. It landed on "Living room picnic." Not what any of us would have suggested. But the decision was made. Just like that, the mental load of planning evaporated. The scramble for blankets
We pulled every throw blanket and cushion onto the floor. It became a chaotic, cozy nest in minutes.Popcorn and stories
We made a big bowl of popcorn. No fancy snacks. We just sat in our nest and talked about nothing in particular. The TV stayed off.It wasn't a grand adventure. It was simple. The wheel gave us permission to not overthink it. To just be in the same space, intentionally.
