Choosing to remove the exclamation points

I remember looking at the first draft of the copy. It was full of words like ‘amazing’ and ‘incredible’ and ‘don’t miss out’. It felt loud, like it was shouting at people from across the room. I wanted it to feel more like an invitation you could quietly accept or just walk past.So I started stripping those words out. It wasn’t about making it boring, just clearer. ‘Win a fantastic prize!’ became ‘See what you might get’. The difference was subtle, but it changed the whole feeling.

When participation feels optional

The best part was watching people interact with it. They’d see the wheel, read the simple text, and then make a choice. Some gave it a spin with a little smile. Others just glanced and moved on to the product they actually came for.Nobody felt pressured. That was the main thing for me. It was just there, a small moment of potential fun if they wanted it. The conversion happened, but it felt like a side effect of respect, not the sole purpose.
