Spin The Wheel

A late evening family game wheel

The day was winding down, but the house felt a little too quiet. I wasn't in the mood for anything complicated, just something to lift the heavy feeling in the room. I remembered the wheel we'd made a while back, tucked away in a drawer.

Finding the wheel in the drawer

It was just a piece of cardboard with some scribbles on it. I pulled it out and set it on the coffee table. The kids saw it and came over, curious about what was going to happen next.No one asked for rules or explanations. We just knew it was time to spin. The quiet anticipation was nice, a little break from the usual evening routine.

The first spin and a shared laugh

The pointer landed on 'silly walk to the kitchen'. We all got up and did our worst, most ridiculous walks across the living room. My youngest nearly tripped over his own feet, and we all just cracked up.It wasn't planned or forced. The laugh just came out, easy and light. The mood in the room shifted completely, like someone had opened a window. We took turns spinning after that, each result just a simple, silly thing to do. There was no winner, no score. It was just us, being a bit goofy together as the night got darker outside.

When the game just faded away

After a while, the spinning slowed. Someone yawned, and we all just sort of settled into the couch. The wheel was still there on the table, but we were done.It had done its job. The quiet felt comfortable now, not heavy. We just sat there for a bit, not really needing to say anything at all.
