Truth or Dare, Just Us

We were just sitting there, waiting for something to start. The room was quiet, and I had closed the other tabs on my laptop, the ones for work and the news. It felt nice to just be still for a minute.

When the silence feels comfortable

It wasn't an awkward quiet. It was the kind where you don't feel the need to fill it with anything important. I think that's the best time for something like this, when your mind isn't racing to the next thing. You're just present enough to play along, but not so invested that it feels like a performance. It's more like turning a page in a book you're both reading.

The questions that don't dig too deep

The truths we ended up asking were soft. They weren't about past relationships or deep fears. They were about small things, like a favorite smell from childhood or the first song you remember loving. It's funny how those little answers can feel so revealing anyway. You learn a new shade of a person you already know so well.

A dare to stay put

One of the dares was just to sit perfectly still for sixty seconds. No talking, no fidgeting. We both did it, and it was harder than it sounded, but also kind of peaceful.

Letting the game drift away

We didn't play to a finish line or declare a winner. After a few rounds, the conversation just naturally drifted onto something else, or into comfortable silence again. The game didn't need a proper ending. It was just a gentle way to pass the time, together. The tabs stayed closed for a little while longer.
