A lazy afternoon and the game wheel

It was one of those afternoons where the house felt quiet, but not in a lonely way. The usual weekend energy had settled into a comfortable lull, and we were all just sort of drifting. I didn't want to plan anything or think too hard about what to do next.

The wheel was just sitting there

I'd made it a while ago, just a silly circle of paper with things written on it. It was tucked under a stack of magazines on the coffee table. My daughter saw it first and picked it up, turning it over in her hands.She asked what it was for, and I just shrugged. "For when we don't know what to do," I said. It felt good to admit that, to not have to be the one with all the answers for a change. She gave it a spin without any fanfare.

Where the pointer landed

It stopped on 'Build a blanket fort.' Not a grand adventure, not an educational activity. Just a blanket fort. We looked at each other and smiled, a small, shared surprise that this was our assignment.There was no debate, no discussion of better options. We just got up and started pulling cushions off the couch. The dog immediately claimed a spot in the growing pile, which made us laugh. It was the easiest decision we'd made all day.

Once it was up, we all crawled in. The light was soft and filtered through the blankets. We didn't even talk much, just sat there in a contented little heap, listening to the quiet hum of the house.

We stayed like that until the light started to change. No one checked the time. The wheel had done its job, not by giving us the most exciting idea, but by giving us permission to do something simple, together.
